Under 30’s – young riders’ scheme

Are you under 30 and want to get your Advanced Rider Qualification? If you do, East Kent Advanced Motorcyclists will reimburse you the entire course fee when you pass your test. You will only need to pay a small petrol contribution for each observed ride.  EKAM wants to help you to learn how to take responsibility for your own safety to a higher degree. We will help you build your confidence, ride more smoothly, learn proper cornering techniques and how to scan for hazards..

Why are we offering young riders this opportunity?

Motorcycles make up just 3.5% of all registered vehicles on the UK roads, yet they account for a shocking 21% of all road fatalities according to the latest data for 2024. Of this number young riders between 17-29 are a particularly vulnerable group making up 24% of all fatal motorcycle accidents.

Some of the common causes listed are:

  • Driver or rider failed to look properly or failed to judge the other person’s path or speed
  • Driver or rider careless
  • Exceeding speed limit
  • Poor turn or manoeuvre

We also understand that young riders might not be as financially stable as older riders. Which is why we offer this subsidy.

Terms and conditions

  • You need to hold a Full UK A, A1 or A2 Licence when you sign up.
  • You just need to contact our Membership Secretary or Observer Co-ordinator stating that you want to take advantage of this offer. They will explain how to sign up.
  • If you are 29 years old when you sign up and turn 30 before your test day, you are still eligible for the reimbursement.
