Training resources
EKAM’s library of advanced riding resources is designed to bridge the gap between simply ‘licensed’ to ‘advanced’ and enhance your IAM Roadsmart training.
We include some of EKAM’s Observers own technical articles, which combined with the instructional videos, offer all riders additional tools to elevate your situational awareness, build confidence, and unlock a level of smoothness in your riding to make every mile more exhilarating and safe.
The Highway Code
The Highway Code underpins everything we do on the road in terms of safety and legality. A comprehensive knowledge of the Highway Code is required to pass the IAM Roadsmart advanced riding test. You can read the Highway Code online at www.highwaycodeuk.co.uk – where you can also download it in PDF format. That said, we woul;d always recommend that members have their own Highway Code booklet – always handy to refer to, or share with family and friends.
IAM Roadsmart training materials

EKAM observers’ videos (coming soon)
1: Positioning
This video explains and demonstrates how the rider’s position on the road can affect their safety as well as their ability to make progress. It can be clearly seen how IPSGA, the system of motorcycle control, is used to good effect.
2: Gear selection
An insight into the selection and use of the right gear for every situation. Note that the selected gears for your bike may well differ from those in the video – the gear you select should always be sufficiently flexible to achieve the aim of accelerating or slowing down smoothly and without stressing either yourself or the machinery.
3: Slow riding technique
This is an essential technique for any rider to master and EKAM runs a specialist course enabling associates and members to both learn and practice in a safe environment. You will see these skills put into practice in subsequent videos; most notably Filtering.
4: Filtering
Showing several loops around Canterbury demonstrating the art of filtering through heavy traffic. You will also see the slow riding skills, explained in the previous video, are put into real-life practice.
