EKAM: our committee
That EKAM runs as smoothly as it does is testament to the fantastic work behind the scenes of our committee members. Our current Committee, and their roles within EKAM, are shown below.
We are always keen to have new blood and new ideas brought in to the Committee to make sure that the club continues to serve our members’ interests. So if you have any interest in helping to run the club, please click here to put your name forward to the Secretary. Descriptions of the type of work involved in many of the roles can be seen at the bottom of the page. To send a committee member an email, just click on their photo.

Descriptions of Committee roles
CHAIR
The role of the Club Chair is to co-ordinate the management of the Club for the benefit of its Members. The Club Chair is not only the figurehead of the club but also the person most responsible for steering the club and ensuring that the club’s practices and policies result in a thriving community. They will be the driving force behind a club’s initiatives working closely with the other officers of the club, acting as the spokesman for the club and will be involved with any issues of conflict which may arise. They need to be aware of the club’s financial situation and how the club is functioning on a day to day basis. The Chair should be familiar with the Club Constitution and the club’s rules and regulations, as well as the abilities and experience of his Committee Members.
SECRETARY
The Secretary is a Trustee of EKAM and is a co-signatory for transactions from the two club bank accounts. He is also the main EKAM point of contact for the Charity Commission (and provides the annual return) and IAM Roadsmart and is conversant with IAM guidance for groups. Other responsibilities include receiving remittance advice, certificates and other information from the IAM and distributes accordingly. He services the Committee by preparing agenda, collating reports, producing minutes, as well as organising the AGM. He also liaises with all committee members and general membership.
TREASURER
Responsible to the Chair and Committee for producing and managing the club’s accounts and finances as well as being responsible for recording all income and expenditure for the club. The Treasurer is also responsible for maintaining and controlling access to the club’s bank accounts. The post-holder is one of the three Trustees of the charity as required by the Charity Commission.
MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY
The Treasurer maintains club records of members (including details of IAM membership status where appropriate), accepts new club members into the club, processes membership renewals, responds to ad-hoc enquiries about club membership and provides membership details to other club officials as required.
CHIEF OBSERVER
The Chief Observer co-ordinates and monitors all Observer activities, to ensure a consistently high standard of observing is delivered by the entire corps and is the first point of contact for all observers and associates should any issues arise. He also takes feedback from Examiners and ensures timely action of any issues arising.
RIDEOUT COORDINATOR
The Rideout Coordinator plans and co-ordinates routes, leaders and tails for Members’ Social Rides and Associates Rides and applies the EKAM Social Riding policy to group rides and endeavours to ensure it is observed during rides. He ensures all Members and Associates are informed/invited (as appropriate) to each rideout, liaises with the Membership Secretary to update contact lists, keeps a record of ride routes and publishes them to the EKAM MyRouteApp group. He also keeps a record of ride attendance numbers to inform future events.
